This began as a mouse behavior tracking tool, but quickly devolved into a plaything. Only real difference is the time parameter: useful behavior tracking would track too slowly to be of interest for a casual visitor looking at this site.
I’m having a lot of fun learning canvas… have an idea for the next evolution of this, but I’m not sure how well canvas is suited for it. Might have to move to Processing.
[EDIT] Tested this across browsers and was very surprised by the color difference: it looks beautiful in web kit browsers (safari & chrome) and like complete ass in firefox… hmmm.

Beautiful work, thank you. Do you know of some way you could make it full screen in HTML5 ’cause that would be cool.

Thanks Christopher! That’s a cool idea and I’ll look into it. Unfortunately I haven’t had a lot of time to play with code lately. Checked out your blog, are you a teacher?

Yeah, I teach at a university in Vancouver and so I can relate to the time to play with code thing (have a new kid too). I used to play a lot with Actionscript, a child of Praystation, but your experiments inspire me to get into javascript and play in the canvas. If you ever felt like sharing some of your code (as toys, not tools) I’d love to see how you tackled some of this. Either way, happy its here.
